Herodots Frauenraub-Mythos

Hallo,

in gängigen Mythologie-Handbüchern ist die mythologische Erklärung für den Streit der zwei Großreiche, nämlich dass Io von den Phöniziern geklaut wurde, nicht verzeichnet. Ist das ein so unwichtiger Aspekt bzw. eine nur bei Herodot auftachende mythologische Erzählung?

Heißt das also, Io gehört zu den Persern, zum östlichen Großreich?

The ancients believed Io to be the moon, and there is a distinct tradition that the Argives called the moon Io. (Eustath. ad Dionys. Perieg. 92; Suid. and Hesych. s. v. Iô.) That Io is identical with the moon cannot be doubted (comp. Eurip. Phoen, 1123; Macrob. Sat. i. 19), and the various things related of her refer to the phases and phenomena of the moon, and are intimately connected with the worship of Zeus and Hera at Argos. Her connection with Egypt seems to be an invention of later times, and was probably suggested by the resemblance which was found to exist between the Argive Io and the Egyptian Isis.

Die Mythologie-Handbücher sind nicht mehr richtig zuständig, und Herodot bietet nicht mehr richtig eine mythologische Erzählung, sondern er instrumentalisiert hier die Mythologie, um einen Deutungshorizont für den geopolitischen Konflikt der Großmächte zu gewinnen. Wir sind also an der Schwelle "vom Mythos zum Logos", bei Thukydides ist sie überschritten.
